"Californication" is here to stay. Showtime's entertainment president David Nevins announced at TCA Winter Press Tour that the comedy is renewed for season 5 after only an episode airing. The fourth season debuted with 848,000 viewers which is the series' best premiere ratings ever.
Speaking to E! Online after the renewal, David Duchovny said, "I'd like to go six seasons. I always thought six would be a good number ...72 episodes would be

At the same time, creator and star took a time to defend the show from the claim that it is "essentially porn". Creator/exec producer Tom Kapinos said, "I don't feel like it's ever gone too far. Porn is people having sex on film. These are people pretending to have sex while naked. I have no regrets at all."
Evan Handler who plays Charlie Runkle added, "I wouldn't get turned on by them. The sex scenes are never just to show people having sex. They're always to make comments on sex or the relationships between the characters."
